For example, a pair of aces beats a straight flush. The lowest possible hand is seven-5-4-3-2 in two or more suits. Aces can also be treated as the lowest card in some games.

Some versions of the game require a minimum hand to bet. For example, in three-card brag, a player must have a hand of at least three cards before making a bet. For other poker variants, the player must have a hand of at least five cards.
